Advanced training giving the geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and seismological elements to reject or select a nuclear site, according to the IAEA procedures: Characterization, Verification, Confirmation.
The main goal is to give information about the geological parameters in order to select a nuclear site for its technical and economic feasibility on the basis of lessons learnt from the EDF fleet.
Information will be given on the main geological and geotechnical surveys according to the kind of rocks and soils of a site. It will be possible to assess the range of the settlements according to the kind of rock or soil on the basis of the settlements recorded for the EDF fleet.
Information will also be given to deal with the underground water table and with the seismic hazard according to the deterministic and probabilistic method.
Pre-requisites: A geological or geotechnical background
Learning techniques: Lecture in a classroom to reinforce knowledge
Training tools: PowerPoint presentations with geological pictures of EDF and foreign sites
